Amidst the peaceful atmosphere and clear waters of Ao Manao, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province, lies an important place that serves as a record of the nation's great memories: "Wing 5 Historical Park." This area is not only a beautiful natural attraction, but in the past, it was a battlefield of blood that must be recorded in Thai history. The event when the Japanese army landed during World War II, this area became one of the fiercest and most intense points of conflict.

Back in the early morning of December 8, 1941, "Wing 5" (the unit's name at that time) faced the Japanese army with more than 2,000 troops who landed to use Thailand as a passage. Although the Thai forces were only a handful and at a disadvantage in terms of equipment, with the spirit of patriotism, the brave soldiers of Wing 5 stood firm and fought with the motto "Better to die than lose the nation." The fighting was prolonged and intense due to a lack of communication, so the ceasefire order from the country's leaders at that time did not arrive. The cut-off Thai soldiers decided to fight to the end.

One of the heartbreaking events that showed determination was the decision to burn and destroy the armory and important buildings with their own hands, so that the Japanese army could not seize and use those supplies or weapons for their benefit. The flames that blazed that day were a symbol of protecting sovereignty without easy surrender, even in the last moments.

Currently, the landscape within Wing 5 Historical Park has been renovated into a beautiful tourist attraction. The front is a seaside area with a clear view of "Khao Lom Muak" standing majestically alongside "Ko Lak", "Ko Hai Lam", and "Ko Rom", giving a relaxing feeling contrasting with the stories of the past. There are also 2 "Museum Buildings" that display permanent exhibitions, telling the detailed sequence of events on December 8, 1941, including displaying real weapons, equipment, and utensils, so that later generations can remember the sacrifice of their ancestors.

Visiting Wing 5 Historical Park is not just about relaxing, but about commemorating and honoring the brave heroes who have given us a peaceful Thailand to this day. If you have the opportunity to visit Prachuap Khiri Khan, don't forget to come and experience the stories of courage hidden in the beauty of Ao Manao.
