If you have the opportunity to explore the ancient sites around Lopburi city, "Wat Raja (Ruins)" is another destination that hides fascinating historical stories. This temple was built during the reign of King Narai the Great, located next to Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat on the north side. It is believed that in the past, this was the residence of the Supreme Patriarch of that era. Although the condition later changed to a deserted temple and much of the historical evidence was destroyed by the construction of buildings and roads in later eras, the remaining traces still clearly reflect the beauty of the past.

Today, the ancient site of Wat Raja still has traces of old evidence for us to study, including the base of the Ubosot (ordination hall) and the base of the Prang (Khmer-style tower), which were renovated and excavated to enhance stability in 1989. There is also a key highlight: the "Supreme Patriarch's Building," located between the Ubosot of Wat Raja and Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat. It is a two-story brick building with three remaining brick walls. The architectural highlight that tourists should not miss is the pointed arch windows in the shape of lotus petals, which are a unique art of that era.
Visiting Wat Raja (Ruins) on a holiday will give you peace and contentment as you trace the history that the Fine Arts Department has registered as an ancient monument since 1936. Although it is only a small group of buildings, it has a mysterious charm that invites you to imagine the greatness of the past. It is suitable for slow-life enthusiasts who want to stroll around the old city of Lopburi from a different perspective and enjoy learning at the same time.
